Working at the Albany NanoTech Complex
Below is a general list of the steps to be taken to perform work at the Albany NanoTech Complex (ANC). The list is not comprehensive but illustrates the basic steps to be completed.
Safety Training
Safety Orientation training is required for anyone working at the Albany NanoTech Complex (ANC) or for anyone who has been off the Albany NanoTech Complex for more than two (2) years.
Cleanroom Safety training is required for anyone working in cleanrooms and/or Hazardous Production Material (HPM) areas.
Contractors shall complete the ‘Safety Orientation’ presentation found here: Safety Orientation.
Save the Safety Orientation test to your desktop or computer and complete the test.
Once complete please save the test again to ensure your answers are saved and email the test to: ehs@ny-creates.org
Contractors shall also read ‘ANT-00004 Contractor Safety Guide’ found here: Contractor Safety Guide.
Employers (e.g., contractors, business partners, tenants) are responsible for providing their company training and/or job-specific training and the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for their employees.
Card Access Badging
Contractors may work on the Albany NanoTech Complex site with a temporary ‘Visitor’ access badge. However, they must be escorted at all times by a permanently badged individual.
To obtain a temporary Visitor access badge, the individual must present a valid state driver’s license, state non-driver’s license or passport at the time of check-in at the Security desk in the NanoFab East (NFE) rotunda.
Visitors that are Non-United States Persons will be required to undergo a clearance check prior to arriving at the Albany NanoTech Complex. Please reference ANT-00001 NY Creates – Access Control for instructions on this process.
If a contractor is on-site for more than four (4) consecutive days, they must have a permanent card access badge. To acquire a card access badge:
- Follow instructions for Safety Training (above), complete the Safety Orientation Training presentation and then complete and submit the Safety Orientation Test.
- Locate and save the ANT-00001-F1 Access Card Request Form located here: Access Card Request Form.
- Complete the Employee Information section at the top of the form and email the form to your Field Coordinator or Work Sponsor overseeing your work. The Field Coordinator or Work Sponsor will complete the form and email it directly to Security via the ACCESS CONTROL listserv.
- If the contractor passes the safety quiz, Security will create a card access badge and notify the contractor via email when the card access badge can be picked up at the Access Control window in NFE.
- Note, the Access Control window is open 8am – 11am Monday – Friday.
Please reference ‘ANT-00001 NY Creates – Access Control’ for complete instructions on complying with this policy.
Parking
Onsite parking is very limited at the Albany NanoTech Complex. Vendors and Contractors will not be allowed to park on the Albany NanoTech Complex. All Contractors (primary and subcontractors) are to coordinate offsite parking and transportation of their workers to the site at their own expense. The cost of time for transport and parking arrangements is not billable to Creates.
However, at this time, we are accommodating on-site contractor parking based upon day-to-day availability. Please submit parking need requests to your Work Sponsor or Field Coordinator for processing.
All vehicles on campus shall comply with ANT-00003 Albany NanoTech Complex Parking Rules and Regulations.
Contractors are responsible for obtaining any required permits for vehicles or equipment. There is no cost associated with obtaining permits. The parking permit application form is located here: Albany NanoTech Complex Parking Permit Application.
Work Authorization Permit
Contractors working on site are required to have an approved ‘Work Authorization Permit’ (WAP).
Exceptions to this are routine work activities performed by contractors or vendors. This would include work such as waste collection, chemical delivery, and facility equipment preventive maintenance (e.g., elevators, air compressors, chillers, etc.). This also includes work by contractors or vendors taking place in the cleanrooms (fab and subfab) on cleanroom tools and/or related support equipment.
In order to determine if a WAP is required, or if additional sub-permits are required, please see the CFM-00004A Work Authorization Permit System Flow Chart.
An instructional form illustrating how to complete a WAP can be found here: CFM-00004B Work Authorization Permit Instructional Form.
A summary of the WAP process:
- A WAP and required sub-permits shall be completed and submitted a minimum of three (3) business days prior to the scheduled start of the work. Note, some sub-permits may require submission more than 3 days prior the work.
- Two (2) copies of each form are to be put into the permit drop box mounted to the wall outside Conference Room 1 (CR-1) in the rotunda of the CESTM building by 8am each weekday.
- The permits are reviewed and approved or returned for additional information. One (1) copy of each approved permit, or both copies of returned permits, are placed on the shelf below the permit drop box for pick up.
- The requestor shall have a copy of the approved permit and sub-permits available for review upon request by Creates representatives (e.g. EHS, FOG, etc.) at the work site location.
Please reference: CFM-00004 Obtaining Work Authorization Permits for complete instructions on complying with this policy.
