AMD spun off their manufacturing shortly after this announcement to create GLOBALFOUNDRIES. The chip fab investment driven by this initiative has resulted in more than $20 billion in direct investment in New York by GLOBALFOUNDRIES. The company currently employs more than 3200 at their site in Malta and recently celebrated their 10th anniversary of operations.
