NY CREATES is a world-leading R&D, innovation hub and commercialization facilitator in advanced digital, analog and power technologies.

NY CREATES will serve as a resource for public-private and academic partnerships within New York State to create and lead industry connected innovation and commercialization projects that attract investment and create growth in high technology jobs.
Additionally, NY CREATES facilitates global partnerships and research efforts that propel forward industries engaged in nanoelectronics, advanced analog and digital technologies.
hISTORY OF NY CREATES
The New York Center for Research, Economic Advancement, Technology, Engineering and Science (NY CREATES) is a nonprofit organization established to oversee and enhance high-tech research and development in New York State. NY CREATES plays a pivotal role in fostering innovation, economic growth, and workforce development, particularly in the semiconductor and advanced manufacturing industries.
Formation and Early Goals
- 2018: NY CREATES was founded as a nonprofit entity to serve as a unified organization for managing New York State’s high-tech assets, including the Albany Nanotech Complex. Its creation was part of a strategic effort to streamline operations, attract industry partnerships, and consolidate resources.
- The formation of NY CREATES brought together key stakeholders, including government, academia, and industry, to drive innovation and economic development.
- 2019: NY CREATES assumed operational responsibility for the Albany Nanotech Complex, which had been managed previously under the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) and SUNY Polytechnic Institute.
- CNSE, which merged with SUNY Poly in 2014 before rejoining SUNY Albany in 2023, continued its academic programs, while NY CREATES focused on facilitating research collaborations and managing the site’s day-to-day operations.

- Strategic Partnerships:

- It became a critical player in attracting investments to New York State, leveraging its infrastructure and expertise to support groundbreaking innovations.
- Management of Advanced Facilities:
- NY CREATES oversees state-of-the-art facilities at the Albany Nanotech Complex, including the NanoFab cleanrooms and laboratories. These facilities support R&D in semiconductors, photonics, and nanotechnology. Learn more about the Albany Nanotech Complex.
- CHIPS and Science Act Alignment:
- In the wake of the 2022 CHIPS and Science Act, NY CREATES played a pivotal role in positioning the Albany Nanotech Complex as the home for the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC).
- Its involvement in national semiconductor initiatives underscores its importance to U.S. competitiveness in advanced manufacturing.
- 2024: NY CREATES’ Albany NanoTech Complex was designated as the location of the CHIPS for America EUV Accelerator, an NSTC facility, investing $825 million in federal funding. This announcement makes New York State the first state in the nation to land one of three NSTC facilities and marks an anticipated significant investment in EUV research and development under the Biden-Harris Administration’s CHIPS and Science Act.
