Abstract: Quantum computing promises to be a profoundly world changing technology, that will tackle many practical challenges in areas from healthcare, climate, energy, to finance and beyond. PsiQuantum is building a general-purpose quantum computer centered around a fault-tolerant architecture, a scalable technology, and manufacturable qubits. The qubits are implemented using photonic integrated circuits. Our path is intrinsically scalable, built on a foundation of silicon photonics, and leveraging technology being jointly developed with our semiconductor manufacturing partner. This platform is capable of on-chip single photon generation, manipulation, detection, low loss routing, and fiber coupling. The talk will cover our material and component development efforts which meet the performance requirements of our quantum photonics platform.
Biography: Dr. Vimal Kamineni is the Senior Director of Foundry Engineering at PsiQuantum, where he joined in 2018. He leads a diverse team of engineers through the semiconductor technology development required to build scalable photonic quantum computing chips. Dr. Kamineni holds a Ph.D. in Nanoscale Science from CNSE (Albany, NY). After his graduation, he joined GLOBALFOUNDRIES’ Technology Research organization in 2011. On assignment to the IBM Alliance (from 2011 to 2018) he led a team on evaluating cobalt contacts to transistors. Dr. Kamineni was an active SRC liaison and was engaged in mentoring students. He has authored over 50 scientific publications, 47 issued patents and coauthored a book chapter on ellipsometry.
