Group Showcases New York’s Successful Industry Innovation and Growth
For Immediate Release January 31, 2020
San Francisco – The New York Center for Research, Economic Advancement, Technology, Engineering and Science (NY CREATES) will be part of a delegation of industry, academic, and nonprofit partners in exhibiting at Photonics West at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. Formed as a new and flexible industry interface in New York, NY CREATES is participating in Photonics West as part of its mission to bridge academic, research and industry innovation of the advanced electronics sector in New York.
Each year more than 22,000 people attend Photonics West, the premier event for the photonics and laser communities, to hear about cutting-edge research, discover the latest products and services, and to network with industry colleagues. Hosted by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, Photonics West features top speakers delivering world-class presentations on key industry topics—from adaptive optics to optical coherence tomography.
NY CREATES President Douglas A. Grose, Ph.D. said, “NY CREATES is at the forefront of technology development including a focus on semiconductors, power electronics and photonics. Evolving from more than two decades of investment, R&D, and industrial excellence, NY CREATES offers an unmatched opportunity for collaborative partnerships and advancement in these complex technology
arenas. We are excited to take this message on the road with our partners in industry and government to show that New York is the most attractive and unique
U.S. location for talent, innovation and growth.”
NY CREATES collaborates with State
University of New York (SUNY), as the lead academic institution, and with ESD
to advance innovative research and manufacturing projects, expanding on prior
state economic development efforts that have successfully generated thousands
of high-tech jobs in the Capital Region and across Upstate New York. NY CREATES
builds on the success of the State’s ongoing investment in programs such as
Albany Nanotech, AIM Photonics, and SUNY Polytechnic Institute. More recently,
NY CREATES has worked to secure major research and industry investments in New
York from Tokyo Electron, Applied Materials, IBM, and Cree Wolfspeed.
A vital component of NY CREATES is the American Institute for Manufacturing Integrated Photonics (AIM PHOTONICS), a Manufacturing USA Innovation Institute. AIM Photonics is supported by more than 120 members, including those focused on data communications, sensors, quantum and neuromorphic computing. Conference attendees can learn more about access to AIM services including; industry leading Process Design Kit (PDK), Multi Project Wafer (MPW), and Test, Assembly and Packaging (TAP), which include a comprehensive set of silicon photonic integrated circuit (PIC) devices enabling the implementation of next-generation PIC technologies.
New York has hundreds of optics, photonics and imaging companies with active regional, national and international collaborations. Supporting those efforts is NY Photonics, the coordinator of the NY delegation. More than 60 organizations are part of this delegation to Photonic West, including:
AccuCoat, AIM Photonics, Apollo Optical Systems, Applied Image, Bristol Instruments, Cadence Design System, Canon USA, Cerion Nanomaterials, Corning Incorporated, Cosmo Optics, Cree, Critical Link, EMF Corporation, Empire Precision Plastics, Epner Technology, Glass Fab, Greater Rochester Enterprise, GS Plastic Optics, Gurley Precision Instruments, Hellma USA, Indium Corporation, JML Optical Industries, LMD Power of Light, Lumetrics, Luminate, Marktech Optoelectronics, Materion Advanced Materials Group, Nanomotion, New Scale Technologies, NY CREATES, NY Photonics Industry, Association, Optics Technology, Optimax Systems, OptiPro Systems, Opmtimetrics Corporation, Photon Gear, Photonics & Imaging Technology, Photonics Industries International, PLX, QED Optics, Rochester Precision Optics, Schneider Optics, Schott North America, Sigmadyne, Solid State Cooling Systems, Spectrum Thin Films, Swift Glass, Sydor Optics, Syntec Optics, Tamron USA, tec5USA, TecOptics, Thermo Fisher Scientific, TOPTICA Photonics, Universal Photonics, University of Rochester Institute of Optics, UpTek Solutions, Veeco Instruments, Vertex Optics, Vincent Associates, Wacom, Wordingham Technologies, Xactra Technologies, and Xonox Technology.
AIM Photonics Chief Marketing Officer Frank Tolic said, “For decades, Photonics West has been the marquee trade show for the photonics industry. Today, as New York continues its leadership role in photonics, power electronics, and semiconductors, it is vital to take that story on the road to recruit new investment and growth across the state. We are thrilled to explore this opportunity and to advance this industry that impacts so much of our everyday lives.”
The New York delegation will be exhibiting at Booth 257.
