NY CREATES and NYDesign, Inc. Announce Strategic Partnership to Bolster IC Design Training

Collaboration to Advance Semiconductor-Centered Workforce Development Throughout New York State

Albany, N.Y. – NY CREATES, a globally recognized non-profit semiconductor-focused R&D center, is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with NYDesign, Inc. (“NYDesign”), further enabling both organizations to support public-private and academic partnerships that will provide the skills and tools necessary for creators to design, fabricate and verify their own integrated circuits (IC), or computer chips.

This collaboration continues to build on the New York Center for Research, Economic Advancement, Technology, Engineering, and Science’s (NY CREATES’) focus on enabling the 21st century semiconductor workforce, which is critical for the long-term success of the industry. Workforce development is instrumental in achieving the goals of current and future investments that are making a robust domestic chip supply possible under the U.S. CHIPS & Science Act, with strategic skills training necessary to help support future National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC) efforts.

“NY CREATES is excited to partner with NYDesign as we harness the powerful synergies between design and fabrication to support unparalleled innovation for the semiconductor industry,” said Dave Anderson, President of NY CREATES. “Our shared vision to empower the next generation of designers and engineers, fostering an environment of creativity and advancing workforce development, will ensure that New York and the U.S. remain at the forefront of the global semiconductor landscape.”

This collaboration with NY CREATES comes at a time when the world is faced with increasing demand for semiconductors, and at a time when New York is showing leadership in IC manufacturing,” said Mark Reynolds, Chair of NYDesign. “The goal of NYDesign has been to bolster academic partnerships to broaden access to IC design curricula for students at high school, community college, and university settings as well as corporate partners interested in custom design. This engagement, which acts to grow the design talent pool, will only add to the growth of IC design centers and related manufacturing across New York State.”

Under this new partnership, NY CREATES will provide strategic guidance and support to NYDesign in its mission to establish design and enablement centers across New York State, representing a notable step forward in addressing talent pipeline challenges faced by the semiconductor industry. The partnership reinforces New York’s collaborative leadership to produce a more skilled workforce by offering integrated circuit (IC) design training, streamlining the design process, and creating seamless access to program tools and intellectual property. Together, these efforts will play a crucial role in bolstering workforce development initiatives throughout New York State and the semiconductor industry.
